Reggie was originally to have been named Reggie Perrin, as in the British series, but the name was changed when it was discovered that there was a real Reggie Perrin living in New York, where the show was set.

In the British series, Reggie confided in his cat Ponsonby. In the US series, Reggie confided in a stuffed fox called Monty.
