CONSORT
OF RENAISSANCE VIOLAS
(in italiano)
The cultural
association "Pro Musica Antiqua" in Belluno
sells, due to closing down, a set of four Renaissance
violas. The instruments were made by Mr. Fabrizio
Reginato, a lute-maker from Asolo (Treviso)
&ndash Italy, basing them on the model of an
Italian instrument of the second end of the XVIth
century, still guarded in Bologna. The four
instruments are:
- a D
soprano viola (1981); height 70 cm;
maximum width cm.21 cm; diapason 35 cm.
- a G
contralto-tenore viola (1977); height cm
95; maximum width 30 cm; diapason 55 cm.
- a D
bass viola (1977); height 114 cm; maximum
width 36 cm; diapason 63 cm.
- a D
violone (1983); height 157 cm; maximum
width 54 cm; diapason 94 cm.
Each instrument
has its own handmade bow and its rigid case.
All the violas
have the Renaissance characteristics of a convex
bottom and a hollow flngerboard functioning as a
sound box.
Very
interesting from a qualitative point of view is the
bottom of the bass viola made of a single board
hand-hollow.
Detailed photos
of the set are available and they will be sent on
request.
As for the
purchase, the whole set will have to be considered.
