Captain Joseph Budd & Joanna Swayze
And Descendants
Joseph Budd served as a Captain in the American army during the War of 1812; he was born to Daniel Budd
and Mary Purdy on July 15, 1774. He and his wife, Joanna, lived in the area of Chester, New Jersey.
They were the parents of the following children:
1. Isaac Budd, born about 1800. He married first Katie Hopkins, and secondly a
Phoebe Douglas (in 1807). Isaac died on 5 June, 1860 and his wife died in April
of 1850. Isaac died in Delhi, Ontario, Canada, where he is buried today; I am not
certain of where his wife died. They were the parents of:
.........Samuel Douglas Budd, who married Saressa Sinden; they
were in turn the parents of:
......................Anastasia Budd, born 1856, probably in Canada,
although she moved to boston at some point before she died in 1933 or 34. She was married to
George Backus and was the mother of John A. Backus, born 18 Oct 1881 and who grew up to marry
Mildred Parker Pierce.
.........William Monroe Budd, who married Mary Purdy Wellhouse (1831-1881); they were the
parents of:
......................George W. Budd, born 11 October 1867 in Chester, NJ
and married to Sarah Emmons. He died in Rockaway, New Jersey in 1940.

2. Daniel P. Budd, born in 1809.
He was married to Mary Keturah Hunt.
3.Gilbert Budd, born in 1798. He had two wives: first, he married Mary Ann Apock; second,
Melinda Lewis. He fathered 9 children, but I am not sure which ones were with which
wife. The children were:
