The House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus) is the common name for a small bird of the finch family. Females are streaked light and dark brown, and in adult males the head and breast are generally various shades of red. It inhabits the western United States and Mexico, from the Great Plains to the Pacific coast, and is especially common in urban and suburban areas.
