The Blue Grosbeak (Guiraca caerulea) male has a deep dull blue color, with a thick bill, two broad tan wing bars. He often flips his tail.
The immature male has a mixture of brown and blue and the female is about size of Cowbird and warm brown in color with lighter brown below, with two tan wing bars and a rump tinged with blue.
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
The Rose-breasted Grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus) has a large, conical, pale bill. The adult female has black and white crown stripes, white underparts with extensive streaking, dark gray upperparts and yellow wing linings.
The adult male has a rosy-red triangular breast patch, black head and upperparts, white underparts and patches in the wing, white spots in a black tail and red wing linings.
Immature males are similar to females but have some red on their breast.
