The "Compact Macs" were the first Macintosh computers, released by apple between 1984 and up to the late 90's in Asia and Europe. The Black and White Compact Macs had a small 9" screen and were often called the "Toaster Macs". Although the Compact Macs were small in stature, they were not small in price. The original Macintosh, the 128k, had a price tag of $2,499 when it was first released. Six years later, The Macintosh Classic, the first "Budget" Compact Mac was released for $999. Apple later colorized this series of computers with the invention of the Color Classic, but it held quite a hefty price tag and didn't make much for Apple because of it's costly small color display. The Color Classic II, the last in the series, was only released in Asia and Europe.
