1) DO FREQUENT WATER CHANGES AND GOOD WATER QUALITY
I cannot stress this point enough. Do at LEAST one water change a week and make sure that the water quality is good. I use AmQuel to remove the chlorine and use a Ph test kit to test the water. First check the PH of your tap water it is probably pretty basic (high PH), so use the product that you got in your test kit that lowers the PH (makes the water more acidic). If your tap is acidic than do the opposite and use the stuff that raises the PH. A betta can survive a PH from 6.5-7.4 in my experience. But a PH of 6.8-7.0 is best. So make sure you get your tap water at a PH of 6.8-7.0. Make sure that the new water has the same temperature and PH as the old water did. A good betta water teperature is about 75 degrees F. They can tolerate up to 85 degres F or as low as 65 degrees F though. To read about what you should do if you get a new betta click here
2)USE AS BIG JARS AS YOU CAN FIND
Half a gallon to a gallon should be fine. You can use smaller but do water changes more frequently if you do use smaller jars.
3)DO NOT OVERFEED
Feed your betta only as much as it can eat in five minutes. Over feeding can pollute the water. Make sure to feed your betta at least once a day.
4)BE CAREFUL AND GENTLE WITH YOUR BETTAS
Must I say more?
5)COVER THE JAR
Well bettas jump. So cover the jar with somthing. Plastic wrap is fine. Don't forget to poke air holes in your cover though.
I will put more here soon. Home
