All you need to know about invisible walls and how to use them . Invisible walls are a great feature in FloorPlan 3D. With invisible walls you can create complex things like sunken rooms, rooms with vaulted ceilings, partial cathedral ceilings, enclosings under stairs, story and half houses, and much more. This page is set up in a question and answer format with pictures so that you can better understand how invisible walls work and what they do. If you still have questions that weren't answered on this page, please feel free to e-mail me.

What are invisible walls?
Invisible walls are just what they sound like, walls that are invisible.
They have all the same properties as normal walls but they can not be seen
in 3D View or in a Photo Realistic Rendering.
How are invisible walls inserted?
Invisible walls can be inserted just like normal walls. Select
invisible wall from the list and click the insert button. When joined
together like the walls in a room you can create a floor and a ceiling
without visible walls. You can also add a roof over them.

Why do you usually insert invisible
walls on a new floor level?
Although invisible walls are safe for the most part, there can be problems.
Occasionally invisible walls will "react" with normal walls and roofs causing
the program to crash. This can be prevented by inserting the invisible
walls by themselves on a seperate floor level. Just go to Tools:Locations
and click Add. Give the new floor level the same properties as the
floor where you want to insert the invisible walls.

How do I divide the floor in a
room into two parts with two different materials?
If you have a room with a floor that has carpet on one side and wood
on the other, just insert an invisible wall down the middle. This
will divide the floor into two parts.

Why aren't my invisible walls
creating a floor and roof?
Make sure that all the walls are connected. You can drag each
wall to see if it is connected to the others then just go to Edit:Undo
to return it to the normal position. Sometimes it can be hard to
connect invisible walls. Instead of trying to get it exact, you might
want to just overlap the walls then go back, select the access wall where
it has overlapped and delete it.

The invisible walls in the picture at left were placed so that they
overlap. This ensures that they are connected. The numbers represent clicks with the mouse, in order starting with 1 and ending with 5. Once you have walls like in the picture just delete the overlap areas (highlighted in red). |
