Protein Power, Michael R. Eades, M.D. and Mary Dan Eades, M.D., Bantam, (1995). $21.95 US / $29.95 CAN. The protein-rich, moderate-fat, low-carbohydrate diet they propose is designed to help one loose weight and also bring one's insulin levels into balance. The book warns against high carb diets on historical and medical grounds, and gives detailed documentation regarding the interconnection between a high carbs diet and different disease symptoms (a.o. hypoglycemia are discussed). The authors include a thorough explanation of the biochemical role of insulin in regulating not only blood sugar, but also cholesterol and blood pressure. The Eades' propose an initial ('Intervention') low carb (30 g/day) diet, phasing into higher levels (55 grams) according to a persons basic symptoms. Eventually you go on the 'Maintenance' Diet; where your carbohydrate level is 30% more than your protein intake. The Zone Diet is very look alike. Website about Protein Power.
