About
the Survey
Welcome to the Hypoglycemia Survey, a survey about all aspects of non-diabetic
types of hypoglycemia, better known as low blood sugar. After a
year of surveying the reception of forms was closed at February 15, 1998.
Since that date, the Survey Team is focusing on processing the database
that has been built. We are happy to say we finally managed to get a head
start, and now we are with working through the vast amount of data that
was produced during the survey. All current and future results can be found
at this page. The project is an initiative of the Hypo
Survey Team of the Hypoglycemia Mailing List.
At February 1998 the last survey section was closed and there won't
be any additional sections to fill out. In the very first month of surveying
the team hoped to receive at least 100 forms, so as to be able to draw
any conclusions that would be statistically relevant. Up to now approximately
3600 forms were received from 1300 participants. The entire survey encompasses
five sections that contain 3-6 parts each. This is a huge response and
the team likes to thank you all for your cooperation!
This survey is NOT meant to be a diagnostic tool. Instead, it is a means
to find out if there are any unrecognized correlations between hypoglycemia
and other seemingly unrelated factors. One goal is to find different causes
of hypoglycemia, another to correlate successful remedies to those causes.
If you have questions about your medical status, consult a health care
professional.
About
the Results
The huge database of information gathered by means of this survey is currently
under study. Imagine 3600 forms containing several hundreds of variables
each and you will get an idea of the huge datamining job the team is confronted
with. We start with listing the answers given to each question in each
section. Then, on the basis of the hypotheses we used for the design of
the forms we check for correlations between diets and symptoms, for connected
diseases or conditions, for symptom patterns, etc. We plan to sort out
the most important results during the first half of this year. The survey
results will be published here, and at several other places on the Internet.
We plan to have a few articles in printed media as well. Keep looking out
for the results during the next months!
Below, you can view the original survey forms and the results that were
generated from the forms. Remember, the survey is closed and filling out
the fields has no sense; your answers won't reach us.
Note: The data presenten at this site have not been fully processed
yet. We did a count of all possible answers to each question. Doubles and
blanks have been corrected, but more difficult stuff like calculating correlations
and testing hypotheses have to be done still. The results are for private
use only.
Hope you find wisdom and health studying the data. Thanks a lot for
your help creating them!
