Auden - Quiet Thunder

A Wandering Monk

The wheel of Drahma turns. Auden knows this well. Through many lives he has passed through the cycle in the same way. His restless soul drives him forever forward towards uncertain destiny. In this life though, he has met with hardships untold.

Born the child of a Chinese man and an American woman, Auden has a rich heritage, but his Chinese side shows the most. He grew up in California as a normal child. There seemed to be nothing special about the boy what so ever. until high school. Auden could run like the wind, lap other atheletes around the track and never seem to get tired while he did it. Soon there was an offer from mysterious patrons to meet with him in San Diego. He accepted their invitiation to come out to their facility and instead met with the Ascension War. The facility belonged to the Progenitors and Auden was to be their next test specimen to raise in their image. Cain made sure that didn't happen thoguh. Cain and a small group of other mages managed to whisk Auden away to safety. It was a tough battle, and Auden had become quite confused when brought before the Xidauyuan masters.

He trained long and hard with two other students saved from the Technocrats. One was a Chinese woman his age named Sandra, whom he had known in past lives and would later become his lover. The other was a man his age named Allen who while able to practice Do, would never come to master it, or his jealousy of Auden's conquest of Sandra. Other students of the Xidaouyuan would mock Allen for being white and not bearing the traditional lineage of the Akashics. Still, Auden counted Allen amongst his friends and council. He aided Allen in study and tried to enlighten him in the way of the Do and Drahma. But there would be no end to Allen's torment.

One night, Auden woke to the sound of steps in the quiet of the Xidaoyuan and rose to see who had slipped from their bunk. Allen was trying to escape. He told Auden that there was no reason to stay. That he would never learn Do, would never have Sandra and would never fit in amongst the others. Auden pleaded, begged and eventually fought Allen against his will in an attempt to keep Allen with the Akashic Brothers. But it was of no use. After hours of fighting Allen slipped away, saying that he would join the Technocracy's Iron Masters. Auden let him go. No one saw the fight that night or heard the sounds of smashing blows but Cain, who kept Auden's secret even after he died. The Xidaoyuan was attacked one month later in an attack led in part by Allen and a group of HIT Mark VII's and Iterator agents. Amidst the carnage of the massacre at the Xidaoyuan, Auden and Sandra managed to escape with their lives but it tore at Auden's heart forever that if he could have kept Allen in the Brotherhood that his master and most of his friends would not have died that night.

After setting up a new school, hardly worthy of being called a full fledged Xidaoyuan, Auden gave his vows of marriage to Sandra, but came to the decision that he must wander the earth after his avatar, the mighty tiger Khan, commanded that Auden fix the wrong he had created in the All by allowing his chantry to fall. Sandra pleaded with him not to return to the lands they had been born in; to stay at Horizon and stay with her. But the mystical and primal stigmata of the All would weigh heavily upon him, draining him of power until he could repair that which he had allowed to slip from harmony's grasp. He promised he would return with Allen, that he would appease Khan's wishes and with that, he lay down with her that night and left before dawn the next day to begin his adventures in repairing the All..

Now, Auden wanders North America in a search for his fallen comrade who he still cannot abanndon hope in All he has is his knowledge of the Mind, Chi, the winds at his back, the stones of the earth and the pull of Fate. Along with his familiar sent by Khan to guide him through his ordeals, he rights the wrongs inflicted upon the All, meting out justice where needed, caring for those in need and the unavenged who cannot rest. But never can he lay a foot in one place for too long. He moves ever onward remembering the words that Khan had spoken to him... That if he ever attempts to lay roots in any one place before his obligation is up... Auden will lose his magic.
