Reporting Child Pornography
The easiest way to avoid seeing child pornography is to know who you're chatting with, and never accept files from people you don't know and trust. That's not always possible, and some people might send it to your ICQ, AIM, email or DCC it to you in IRC. Some post child pornography in newsgroups (UseNet), perverts have taken over several formerly safe newsgroups. This page (when finished) will tell you how to report all of these.
Reporting Email Abuse
Email abuse is the easiest to report. When some one sends you anything you don't like, not just pornography, hit the forward button and send a copy of it (including all the attachments) to all of these three addresses: "abuse@domain.name" "root@domain.name" and "webmaster@domain.name"
If you don't know what a domain name is, look at the sender's email address, it looks like "pornodude@something.com" for example. Using this example, your report would be sent to these addresses: "abuse@something.com" "root@something.com" and "webmaster@something.com"
If you still have trouble figuring it out, don't get upset. Close that letter and email KACP or ask around in chat for help. Let people know you're upset, don't just sit on it. If you don't have a parent who can help you, there are several caring adults online who will make sure this gets reported.
All email providers, even the free ones, have at least one of those names, and if they want to stay in business, they will take your complaint seriously. Please only send the letter once, don't send it many times to get attention. That's called spamming, and that's a crime too. You don't want to lower yourself to their level. If you haven't got an answer in a reasonable time, say a week, then send it again. Warn other people you know and trust about the person who sent this to you, but please don't send them the pornography, as they will probably be as upset about it as you are.
Reporting ICQ Abuse
ICQ's User Agreement makes it clear they won't help you if people abuse it. I don't like ICQ, and don't have it, but if you like it, pornography pushers shouldn't be allowed to spoil your fun. The good thing about ICQ is some people are actually stupid enough to believe they are anonymous. It has an option where you select "Do Not Show IP#" but that won't protect them. A simple program like Net Monitor will show their IP#, and resolve it so you can see what ISP they use. Then, you've got them by the balls.
To report pornography on ICQ or other Internet abuse, first look to see if an IP# is showing. Click their name, and select "User's Details." In the top right corner, there is a section that says "Current/Last IP#". If it's blank, you will need a program like Net Monitor but if there's a number there, copy it down exactly. If you know how to do a DNS, that will tell you what ISP they're using. After that, you report it the same way as email abuse: "abuse@isp.name" "root@isp.name" and "webmaster@isp.name". If you don't know how to do a DNS, don't worry, email KACP with the exact number. I'll do the DNS for you, or show you how, or help you find someone online who can help you.
The easiest thing to do is place the offender on ignore, but ICQ has a limit of 40 names in its ignore box, and it's not fair that you have to clutter up your chat program with filters. But, sometimes, that's what you have to do. If no one is around to help you report it, don't let one pervert spoil your fun, just ignore him and forget it.
Some steps to prevent getting unwanted stuff on ICQ:
1) Only give your number to people you are sure you can trust. Don't say your number in an open chat room, that's asking for trouble.
2) Don't put more than you need in your user info. You don't need your age there, and for goodness sake, don't put your real last name, address or phone number.
3) Make sure your email address isn't showing. Perverts cruise guestbooks and chat rooms looking for kids' email addresses so they can get you on ICQ.
4) Make sure your ICQ is set so that people need your authorization to add you to their contact lists. It's harder for them, because they can't see if you're online.
5) Use ICQ's Ignore and Invisible lists. If they fill up, get another ICQ #.
6) Find an ICQ user you trust and have him or her help you set up all the options you need to run it safely.
Reporting AIM (and other programs) Abuse
AIM used to be secure, but AOL made changes in newer versions to include things like file send/receive, so you may get something you don't like there. The safest bet is to ditch the newer version of AIM and find an older one that doesn't have those options. Like any program on the net, you use it at your own risk. That means if you run into trouble, the program manufacturer won't help you. The same applies to any program that allows file sharing between users such as FTP, netmeeting, and others. It's at your own risk.
Reporting IRC Abuse
With thanks to MarcelC
To report abuse on IRC, you need the user's hostmask and a log which includes timestamps. It's also useful to go immediately to a IRCop channel on the net you are on. Most of those channels are called #help. Or just scan the network for IRCops and msg one of them. Usually, scripts have this option installed. On IRC Networks which mask the hostmasks of their Users, you can get the real hostmask only if the person sends you a DCC and there's always a DCC log in your script. There you can find the real mask then. You will never get the real DNS/IP with a /whois on those nets.
Before you go on IRC, talk with a friend you trust and make sure your IRC client is set up properly. Log everything. You can always delete logs later but this way you have a record of everyone who may send you pornography.

Reporting UseNet Abuse
UseNet is one of the oldest parts of the Internet. Usually called newsgroups, these are places where interests are divided into discussion groups, and people post messages back and forth. This has been mostly replaced by email and message boards, and a lot of newsgroups are now file-sharing oriented. Some kids groups have been taken over by pedophiles and perverts, and that's sad, because it's one of the easiest ways to share files.
If you see child pornography in your favourite newsgroup, don't respond in the group. Email KACP and we will help you with kill filters for your news reader. Most of the scumbags who post child pornoraphy there are gutless cowards who hide their IP#s anyway, so it's nearly impossible to take any action yourself. Don't get upset, don't send nasty messages to the group (that's called flaming, and it just makes things worse), just get out and talk with a friend.
Never post to a newsgroup using a program that sends your email addy or IP#. If you don't know, don't send. There are perverts there who pretend to be kids, and there are pedophiles who call themselves boylovers who will hurt you. They'll mess with your mind and say it's just an "alternate lifestyle" which is ridiculous. What they want to do is get in your pants.
Are all newsgroups bad? No, of course not. There are places to safely download mp3s and other sound files, as well as TV show clips and a whole pile of other things. But beware, perverts have no consciences and they may take over your group. As long as you're safe and have friends to lean on for support, enjoy!
