
At one time, I took a Computer Science course, which included an account on a Sun workstation. The userid's were assigned by choosing the first 8 letters of the last name, in my case digiacom. It was remarked by a classmate at that time that if I merely dropped the a, I'd have a perfect name for a company, and DigiCom was born. [It turns out that I'm not alone with this idea, as the name is not only used in a Michael Crichton novel, but also by a modem manufacturer.]
