Yes, this is shamelessly self-indulgent. But heck, this is technically a personal page, so I might as well include some kind of personal info.
My name: That's rather obvious, don't you think? Just look at my copyright notices. Assuming I'm not using a pen name, of course.
My birthday: January 24, 1981. Never mind that it was supposed to be sometime in March... I gave my mom quite the shock. Apparently she woke up in the middle of the night, thought, "Oh, I can't be going into labour, it's much too early for that," and went back to sleep. I was almost born in an ambulance.
Place of residence: Canada. Western Canada. More specific than that, I will not tell you. Did you know, as soon as you cross to the north side of the 49th parallel, no matter what time of year, the temperature drops instantly to -30 degrees, and there's suddenly three feet of snow on the ground? I live in an igloo and eat nothing but moosemeat and maple syrup, and I always wear lumberjack shirts, just like everyone except the Mounties (who always wear those funny hats and red uniforms). And if you believe anything I said in the last two sentences, I've got a bridge to sell you. Would you believe that there actually are Americans who come up with their skis and winter coats in the middle of July and demand, "Hey, where's the snow?"
Occupation: I'm a second year university student. My major is linguistics, and my minor is Japanese. In other words, I like languages. And language in general. Words are my toys.
Languages I know: English is my native language, I'm quite fluent in French, and I could probably survive if you dropped me in Japan with no English speakers around... but just barely.
Interests: Writing, reading, Japanese animation (aka anime), the internet, computer role-playing games (of the single-player, not the on-line variety), origami, and music (I play the flute and the piano, and I've been singing approximately since I could talk), among other things.
Favourite kinds of music: My tastes are rather eclectic. If it's in the "pop/rock" section of a record store, I probably like it, or I can at least stand to listen to it. I love Celtic music and most Celtic rock. I also love choral music, and "classical" music of the Romantic and 20th century varieties. My current obsession is the Japanese composer Yoko Kanno. She is God, I tell you, God. My other favourite composers include Prokofiev, Holst, Vaughn Williams, and others that I'm too lazy to think of.
Favourite books: Well, I started this bit, but then realized that I had way too many to include. So now they're going to get a page of their own.
Favourite tv shows: The Simpsons, Pokemon (yes, I admit it), and various Japanese anime shows that I won't mention because most of you wouldn't know what I was talking about. I used to like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but now it's gotten overly weird and overly violent.
Well, that's about all I can think of to put up here. If there's anything else you'd like to know, ask me and maybe I'll add it.
