Installation - You need to copy three files (Here is a Zip version). This includes: The system disk image, The tools disk and rawrite.exe a program that copies disk images to floppies. To use rawrite you place a formatted floppy disk in your drive, type rawrite and follow the prompts
The initial configuration: The initial system configuration is done on the firewall-router directly (One day I'll figure out how to build the configuration over the web)
step 1 - create the two floppies
Download
the 3 files (I've zipped them together)
If your
using a windows machine
use rawrite to copy files to floppies
If your
using a unix machine to download, use dd to write the two images to floppies
After
the disks are written, you should write protect the tools floppy.
The floppies are normal msdos 1440 images which can be duplicated on
a pc.
step 2. Initial Boot (Checks that your disks were written correctly)
Place the system floppy in the firewall-
router machine and boot
after a while you should get a login
prompt
You want to login, your user name is
root
You should not need a password
when you get a prompt %
type setup
the firewall - router will ask
you to insert the tools disk
step 3. Select your cable modem vender
The firewall - router will ask you if you are using MediaOne.
answer y
If you answer n - the firewall - router will ask you if
you have a static or dynamic ip address
based on your answer it will then ask you to supply data
from your cable service.
step 4. Configure the ethernet cards and optional services
