Safety Relief Valves -
Valves for discharging and safety devices

Valves for discharging and safety devices.   This family of valves are designed to remove fluid from a piping system.   They may discharge to another piping system, to a drain, to the atmosphere or even to a vessel operating at a lower pressure.   They are often automatic in operation.   Since a valve that works by levers and weights can easily be render inoperative by personnel most pressure relieving valves are spring loaded.
Safety Relief Valves.   These valves are operated by system pressure and are almost always mounted directly onto either the piping or the vessel that is being protected.   These valves are designed to relieve excess pressure in either a gas or a liquid.   They are used when the relief of pressure may suddenly develop a vapor phase due to the rapid and uncontrolled heating from chemical reaction in liquid laden vessels.
