|         The valve that is most common used for this is the gate valve.   The design of most types of gate valves makes them unsuitable for throttling applications.   This is due to the erosion of the seat and disc that occurs from the vibrations of the disk created in throttling.   This is known as disk chattering.   With some fluids a globe valve may be recommended for on/off service instead, because a globe valve will provide a tighter closure. |
|         Single-disk single-seat gate valve "Slide Valve":   This type is usually reserved for services of fibrous suspensions such as paper pulp slurry.   It may also be used with low pressure gases.   This valve will not operated correctly if it is installed with the inflow on the seat side.   This valve may be used for throttling only when a tight closure is not required. |
