| Summary: | With Demonder away for a few days, Rennar takes the opportunity to enjoy a quiet night within the Rose and Lion Inn. During that time, she offers Sorenis, the guardsman assigned to protect her, a job within House Hune once his services as a personal guard are no longer needed. She also discusses her life with Mistress Juli, a server well-known within the Inn. |
Common Room: Rose and Lion Inn, Caemlyn
The common room of The Rose and Lion is a merry place. The patrons here appear happy, and sit at stout wooden tables, or at the long bar, in groups of twos or threes. There is much drinking, talking and laughing.
The crowd is large tonight, and laughter and chatter fills the common room to the rafters. The smell of the spring flowers in full bloom fills the common room with a sweet scent. A stout wooden door leads back out to the busy Caemlyn Road, a smaller wooden door leads to the stables, and a well-worn staircase leads up to the private bedchambers and common sleeping areas.

Sorenis arrives with Rennar.
Siobhan's sitting at the bar counter, having a glass of wine and looking around.
Brannon sits at a table with Rio and Jhafir, speaking quietly with the burgandy-clad woman.
A young looking noble woman, complete with a guard, enters the Rose and Lion's common room. The guard, Sorenis, seems to keep some small distance between himself and the Lady, to give her some semblance of privacy. Rennar, of course, does not seem to happy with his tagging along, though appears to put up with it. Nodding to the window table, the Lady conveys where she intends to take her seat. The guard acknowledges her nod and makes way to follow her about halfway, then stops and positions himself while she moves and takes up a seat of her own.
Magnus sits by the fire...playing himself a game of chess.
Siobhan puts down her wine to curtsey quietly to the Lady, sliding off her stool to do so.
Rio glances up as the Lady Rennar enters the inn and gives her a polite nod, but returns to her conversation with Brannon at the corner table.
Catching Siobhan's curtsey, Rennar gets a perplexed look on her features. Shrugging it off, she turns her attention to Sorenis. "You might as well sit down. It's not as though I am here on business." She makes a poor attempt at a pleasant smile toward her guard. He does manage to unglue himself from his position not too far away, and move at least to stand near the Lady, rather than sitting. It seems he takes his job seriously. Rennar rolls her eyes a bit, then glances to the serving maid. "Juli...?" She calls out, her smile warming a bit as she waits for the young woman to come her way.
Siobhan slips back into her seat, and picks up her glass again to sip at.
The servant named Juli stops washing one of the tables and goes over to Rennar's, smiling a bit. "Good evening, M'Lady Rennar." She murmurs in quieted tones. "A cider...?" She inquires, obviously knowing Rennar quite familiarly.
Rennar nods her head a bit, smiling gently, "Yes, please. And, if you please, some cake. Demonder's out of town, and since I've some time I thought I'd enjoy a night out."
Juli nods her head a bit, "Very well then, one cider and a slice of cake coming up." She smiles warmly at the noble woman, then heads off into the kitchen.
"Thank you." Rennar states quietly, then turns her attention to Sorenis. However, before she does, her gaze narrows and rests upon Magnus a few moments, her lips thinning together in tight little lines.
Magnus sits quietly by the fire playing his game. Simple old men...are amused by simple old things
Magnus feels Rennar's eyes on him and turns to look her over for a moment...He smiles eyeing the poor bored guard. "Would you care for a game of chess Lady hune?"
Rennar turns her gaze completely toward Sorenis, after finishing her study of Magnus. Despite what a few others may think of the Lord Trigaran, Rennar's not as impressed by the man's achievements, or as trusting. She did not grow up to respect or admire him as her father did before her. She mutters to Sorenis, "... told... that... will allow you to... guards... Hune .... you... House... we decide... remain... guard,..."
Sorenis senses "Rennar turns her gaze completely toward Sorenis, after finishing her study of Magnus. Despite what a few others may think of the Lord Trigaran, Rennar's not as impressed by the man's achievements, or as trusting. She did not grow up to respect or admire him as her father did before her. "I told Demonder that I will allow you to stay as my personal guard, until we get more guards into House Hune. If you wish a job within my House after we decide who shall remain as my more permenant personal guard, we can discuss that later.""
Magnus watches Lady Rennar as she mutters to her guard...perhaps he would like to come play instead?
Rio continues to speak quietly with Brannon at the corner table. Occasionaly she glances out at the general room, taking in the interplay between Rennar and Magnus.
Sorenis blinks slightly, his eyes widening a bit. Clearly this particular guard is surprised. It mutters to Rennar, "... would be... Lady... join the ranks of... after... term... here."
You sense Sorenis blinks slightly, his eyes widening a bit. Clearly this particular guard is surprised. "I would be honored to remain with your Guard Lady Rennar, however Lord Demonder has promised that I could join the ranks of House Roesone after my term is finished here."
Siobhan looks over towards the interplay between the old man, the noblewoman, and her guard, sipping at her glass of wine with an impassive expression.
There is very little interplay between the two. In fact, Rennar's first glance was mere moments, and she has not looked back at him since, until now, when she catches a few words of his question, "I am afraid, Lord Trigaran, that I am a very poor chess player, and tend to stay away from games I know I have no chance of winning."
Magnus laughs quietly. "The only way to get better...is to get beat. I played my father more than 500 games before I finally won my first." He smiles looking Sorenis over. "Do forgive me, I see you obviously have something better to occupy your time with."
"The game has never suited me." Rennar replies, her expression and tone dry, particularly as Magnus overlooks Sorenis. With nothing more to say to the Lord, she turns her attention back to the guard who insists upon standing rather than sitting.
Rio finishes her conversation with the young Proven and then gracefully rises to her feet. "Peace favor your sword, Brannon. I hope that we can talk again sometime." She glances at her warder who is also preparing to depart with her and then begins to make her way out of the common room of the inn.
Rio pushes through the wooden door and heads back out to the stableyard.
Brannon nods, "Peace favor you as well, Aes Sedai."
Siobhan nods quielty as the Sedai departs.
A few moments later Juli arrives with those items that Rennar earlier ordered; one cider and one slice of cake. "Here you go, M'Lady." She places them down gently in front of the young woman. "I have been meaning to ask..." She shifts a little uncomfortably, "... and pardon if I seem to be intruding..." She lets her voice trail, her eyes holding a bit of concern, "But I've noticed that you've not been coming around much lately, and I was wondering if all is well now that things are starting to settle down from... well..." There is a moment of uncomfortable pause, "... your uncle...."
Siobhan looks back to Magnus. "Do you mind if I play, good thir?" she lisps.
Brannon finishes his ale and leaves a few coins on the table. He stands and heads outside for some fresh air.
Brannon stands and leaves Small Table near stairs.
Brannon pushes through the wooden door and heads back out to the stableyard.
Magnus looks to Sio. "No not at all. Do come and sit down."
Siobhan curtseys a bit, picking up her wineglass.
Siobhan stands and leaves Bar Stools.
Siobhan sits down at Fireside Table.
Magnus smiles amiably as he looks his opponent over. "What might your name be dear?"
Siobhan sits down across from Magnus, facing him over the chess table. "I am Thiobhan Cathathaigh." she murmurs.
Rennar shrugs a bit at Juli, "As well as can be expected, considering the circumstances." Meanwhile, Sorenis takes a few steps back away from the table, giving the Lady her privacy once more. "Much still goes on within the House. I doubt anything will ever be completely settled, but we are managing. I do thank you for inquiring though." She smiles softly at the young waitress.
Juli nods her head and backs away. "I understand, M'Lady. My blessings upon you and your family." She then turns and goes back to the table she was earlier washing and cleaning off.
Magnus blinks attempting to translate that. he does not hear well afterall. His wheels spin for a long moment. "It is good to meet you dear. My name is Magnus." He spins the board around so that the white pieces are in front of Siobhan...If one were to look at the ivory pieces they would see that those pieces are carved in the likeness of weel known personalities of the white tower. The Amyrilan being the king...the keeper being the queen...Gaidin as knights trainees and novices as pawns. It is a truly beautiful set and must have cost a fortune.
Rennar nods her head slightly after Juli. Seeming to have lost her appetite for the small dessert and drink, Rennar places a few coins on the table to cover her bill. She rises from her chair, t hen motions to Sorenis to follow her. Eager to be out of the room, and to get the Lady back to her home, he pushes away from hs perch along the wall and falls into step behind her.
