| Summary: | A debate between Rennar and Chade on 'happiness' and 'dreams' later turns into a discussion over Lady Calisa Hune. Rennar reveals to the Hune tutor that her younger sister is an admitted Darkfriend. She also implores him to watch out for her youngest sister, Lady Satira, and to make certain she does not follow the same dark path as Calisa did. |
Entrance Hall: Tiras Lorn, Caemlyn
You are in the foyer, or entrance hall, of House Hune. The walls around you are made of white stone, and the floor is made of marble. Set into the middle of the floor is a stone mosaic of the House Hune sigil. Doors and archways lead off of the foyer into other parts of the building. But the most predominant feature here is the staircase. It stands opposite the doors to the courtyard, and is made of marble. It is in a horseshoe shape, with the two ends beginning on the floor, and the height of the crescent reaching the second floor. There is a small landing at the climax of the staircase, so it is possible to go from one end of the stairs to the other without actually leaving the foyer. The small landing area leads into the upstairs hallway, but is also useful as an area from which to address large crowds in the foyer. Under the landing area is the door to the kitchen. In the south wall is the door to the Steward's Office, and the north wall contains the entrance to the Grand Hall. A large fireplace also rests in the north wall, and gives heat to the main floor during the winter.
Chade descends the staircase from the second floor and joins you in the entry hall.
Chade smiles as he comes slowly down the stairs, he inclines his head to the Lady Rennar when he sees her "My Lady..."
Rennar sits upon one of the many couches not too far away from the stairs. Hearing her name, she looks up from the book she had been reading, and smiles gently, 'Good day, Master Chade. How fare you?" She inquires, though seems rather reserved - or more so than usual.
Chade smiles as he looks about "I am well. Yourself my Lady? Are things well within the House..?"
"That depends on what you consider to be well, Master Chade." Rennar comments, marking her place nad closing her book. She sets it down beside her on the couch she sits upon.
Chade nods slightly "I suppose it would be relative but I would think that things are better than they have been in the not too distant past, but it seems much does manage to pass me by..."
Rennar shrugs her shoulders a bit, smoothing over her skirts to get rid of any wrinkles, "I'm not all that certain anything has changed, to be honest." She comments, her voice and demeanor seeming overly neutral. It is almost as if she distances herself from everyone and everything. Rumors of such happenings with the Lady may have been going about the House of late. "Though, I suppose that could be because I am still in recovery, and other things occuring unexpectedly."
Chade nods slightly as he considers this "Yes, well life is full of uncertainties, it is how we deal with them that determines our character..." Chade then shakes his head slowly "I never thought that you were thought that you were the type to hide from life..."
Rennar quirks a brow lightly at Chade, "I am not hiding from life. I am simply living it in the cage that was created for me by others." There is a dryness to her voice, almost as if she's argued this point time and again with countless others - or at least one other. She crosses her arms before her, regarding Chade, "There are those out there that wish to see me dead. It is thought that I am much safer when I an under watch. I figure, I am safest within my own House, where there are loyal servants and staff about me, yes?" She shrugs her shoulders, "And if they are not so loyal, I'll die anyway, regardless of where I am."
Chade laughs slightly as he looks at the Lady Rennar "And what is life in a cage?" Chade shakes his head slowly "A woman in your position must be careful, but locking yourself away is no way to live." Chade gestures around the room "You have wealth, power, and position, surely you could arrange a way to live outside of a cage, too perhaps experience life and a bit of happines..."
"Wealth, power and position are not tools to bring happiness Master Chade. I would gladly trade them any day, would being someone not born to priveledge have kept me from what fates I endured, and that of my family." Rennar shakes her head, eyes taking in the rooms about her, "Nor will they keep away those who wish to seek service with the Dark, should that ever occur." There's a bit of contempt in her voice as she speaks those words - surprising coming from Rennar. They are neither accusation or allusion to anything going on within the House, merely a statement made. "Happiness is but a dream that can never be achieved."
Chade grins slightly as he looks at the Lady Rennar "You have given up on the dream and for you the dream will never come true but if you believe in the dream it is possible to achieve it..." Chade then sighs slightly, catching his breath for a moment "What would make you happy? Do you even know, or have you already resigned yourself to less than you are due...?"
"What would make me happy, Master Chade, is to be able to live my life as if none of the mess that has been made of it has never happened. But, that's an impossibility. It lingers over me each day... and on top of that, the ruination of my own sister." That is the closest that Rennar has even gotten to coming out of the closet about Calisa. There may be no mistaking about who she means, since her kidnapping occured just after her own.
Chade shakes his head slowly "Your sister has always appeared to be a good girl. But you can not live life in the past, sure terrible things have happened but you should be living for the future. Accept and learn from what has happened but live for the future..."
Rennar smirks wryly at Chade, "Appearances can be deceiving, Master Chade." She shakes her head, "And she most deceiving of all. I foresee little future for myself, and fear that I will drag Demonder down with me. But, he does not see that."
Chade laughs slightly "Then Lord Demonder may be smarter than he appears. The future is what you will make of it and it would seem that you have already decided to make yours as miserable as possible...." Chade then looks at Rennar "If that is what you see, why bother living? This attitude will only cause those that care about you great pain, surely you could just end your own life and save those that care about you the grief and suffering that your life of unhappiness is going to inflict on them..."
Despite Chade's words, Rennar remains rather calm and collected. "Why bother living, indeed? Because the fates are not yet through with me. If the wheel wanted me dead, I'd be dead by now, rest assured. However, I live my life the way I do out of choice. I do not question you on how you live yours, nor believe I should be questioned in my own choices. No matter /where/ I go, the simple matter of fact is that I /am/ caged. There's no way to get around it."
Chade shakes his head slowly as his face saddens "I am sorry that you believe so maybe someday you will discover differently" though by the tone of his voice it is doubtful that he believes that "Now tell me, what is it that your sister has been deceiving about, surely she cant have done anything to get you so upset...?"
Now, Rennar raises a brow at Chade, chuckling almost in a sardonic manner, "She's admitted to being a Darkfriend." She lets her words trail off, watching just how Chade takes that particular bit of information, "And lied about it at first to the Queen herself."
Chade gets a confused look on his face as he hears this news, he holds onto the railing as he tries to steady himself "You are sure, surely there is a mistake...?"
"I was there myself when she made her confession. There is no mistake." Rennar comments, her own neutral expression hardening a bit. Perhaps this sheds a small bit of light on her demeanor of late. "She has sworn oaths to the Dark."
Chade nods slightly as he listens to this, his face still a blank "but surely one can not walk in the dark so long that they can not return to the light...?"
"That is what the Queen is looking into currently." Rennar states, her tone of voice rather calm and bland. "However, even if she did go back to the Light, the fact still remains she swore oaths to the Dark One. That is not something I can, nor will, tolerate."
Chade nods slightly as he continues to take this all in "I see...so you will not have anymore contact with her...?
"Would you have contact with someone who was known to be a friend of the Dark? That she went once, lied about it, and then turns to the Light is no excuse, nor pardon for her actions. She cannot be trusted, in any capacity. It is people like that who almost tore this country apart once." Rennar responds, calmly keeping a hold of the emotions running within her voice, "She is in the Queen's hands now, to decide what to do with."
Chade nods slightly "I see. Well surely things can only get better..."
Rennar shrugs her shoulders lightly, "That depends..." She comments, "On whether or not this Lord Renford of Murandy sends his assassins after me again."
Chade shrugs slightly "I can only assume that you have taken precautions against such actions? Perhaps you should move against the Lord Renford first....?"
Rennar quirks a brow at Chade, "This Lord Renford is a man who is making a bid for the Murandian throne. Were House Hune attempt to take actions against it, it would surely mean war between Andor and Murandy."
Chade shrugs slightly "Only if a link could be established between the attempt and House Hune. Surely a Lady as clever as yourself could figure a way around such a thing...?"
Rennar shakes her head faintly, "I'd prefer not to get involved in the politics of another nation, when my own House has nothing to do with it, nor has made any actions against this man. We've enough problems right here in Andor. The Queen is aware of the situation, and precautions have been taken."
Chade nods slightly "I am sorry, I forgot that you would rather not step outside of your cage, please pardon me..." You might detect a slight sound of sarcasm in his voice at that last comment.
If the Lady notes the sarcasm, she speaks nothing of it, letting it slide away from her. "I do ask that you keep a close eye on Satira. You are close to her than I am myself. Please..." Her voice almost pleads with Chade, "Do not let her fall in the same steps as her sister."
Chade nods slightly "I will do what I can..."
