| Summary: | Theowyn confronts Renford in the courtyard. This, after Theowyn interrupts a conversation between Renford and Caenna. |
Caenna observes quietly, "I'm sure nearly everyone, no matter what time they live in, belives their period is a strange on, Lord."
Renford chuckles as he continues to brush his horse's mane. "Yes...I did lie to her about my identity, but I feel that lie is justified. I prefer my safety to be in my own hands...not the hands of others."
Renford continues. "She does not trust me because she believes...I am responsible for the attacks on her friends. Ah well, I told her who it was that was really doing it, if she continues to believe it is I...then that is her perogative."
Dain looks over his shoulder to Caenna and inclines his head patting his horses back, "Indeed with the prophecies, it Raining fish at the blessing, the river errin turning red... " he choses to say no more at this point perhaps thinking it better not to get into another convorsation about the horn, the shadow and everythign else involved in that. Looking agin to Renford he nods agin at the mans words, "Well she seems to be a even minded person... but her emotions get the better of her at times from what I have seen. Talking to her people she is a Fair a just woman, I am sure that once this is cleared up things will improve much... Emotions are high now, people are afraid." he offers with a wave of his hand.
Through the doors of the palace, Theowyn departs surrounded by several members of the Queen's Guard. The small escort seems to be less then that, as Theowyn seems to be giving them instructions. Some part, and about three remain as Theowyn makes his way further in.
Caenna chuckles. "Then again, it is very rare that a king would go about in disguise, prowling the streets of a foreign city as 'Milton' reportedly has. It does not exactly engender trust."
Caenna's smile slips. "Neither would throwing heads about, in a royal court."
Renford looks to Caenna. "I wanted to know what was going on here myself before I was put into a position to defend myself publicly from it." He pauses. "At no point have I been...prowling." He chuckles yet again. I did not throw the head...that angry Hune did."
Caenna nods, conceding at least the second point, but her face is neutral. "So what did you find was going on?"
Dain smirks at Caenna's words, looking to the woman he offers, "I Imagen that most would not belive that a Son of a High Lord of Tear spent near a year as a gleeman entertaining the common folk ither, but belive it or not it happens... I for one think that this man perhaps did indeed take the correct precautions. A step I have taken before myself." he offers with a slight smile to the other man still not sure if what he says is true, but certainly leaning that way.
Theowyn's eyes scan across the courtyard easily enough, the warder slowing in his steps as he realizes the small gathering that surrounds Renford. A frown quickly disappears, as he heads in their direction, seemingly casually glancing at those around him more then they do at Renford himself.
Renford just smiles. "Oh nothing much, riots in the streets, Queens distributing bounties that they later snatch back, nobles fighting over women. I could name a few others I think." And they call him uncivilized
Renford seems most thankful to have an allie. Must be the horses...whatever the cause, he appreciates it. "My predassesor put her trust in guards...She died. I put my trust in a little misdirection, and I am still alive. If I had it to do over again, I would not change a thing."
Caenna says "Naturally not, since you are still alive. But it - well. We'll see. If you are who you say you are..."
Renford can't help laughing. "Care to put a wager on it?"
Dain frowns slightly to himself noting that he has been ignored, ah well such is life. With a smile all his own he places a booted foot into one of the sturups on the saddle and with the creaking sound of leather swings himself across the broad back of Shan A'pass the horse glancing at the other animal as dain mounts. Settling in his seat a bit he looks over the assembled and then notices the approaching First Prince, giving the man a slight bow at the waist.
"If he is who he says he is," Theowyn begins, catching the last of Caenna's words, "then I am not certain if that would bring more or less credit to his words." Ah yes, Theowyn is rather unpleasant, though he nods actually incline his head to Renford as he does to the others. Dain especially, on this day. "Then you could explain why two members of the High Court did not recognize the Lord Renford from the one they knew. But I'm sure you can explain this?"
Renford turns and nods, that smile not fading. "I can...but is it worth my breath? So far everything I have said has been taken fo a lie, so why should I bother explaining?"
Caenna moves back a step as Dain mounts, attention shifting from Renford. She shakes her head, but says to Renford. "It is worth explaining."
Dain offers the First Prince a smile of his own, shifting in his saddle Dain turns it from the small group not wishing to break up the convorsation he simply departs twords the exit to the courtyard.
Renford smiles. "Very well then Aes Sedai...I shall endevor to explain." He pauses. "During my conflict with Queen Sydelle...there were no less then 5 of me prowling around Murandy at any given time."
Caenna nods. "Go on."
Theowyn simply nods lightly, judging this man calling himself Renford.
Dain mounts Shan A'pass.
Dain has left.
Shan A'pass moves twords the exit to the palace courtyard, Dain astride his wide shoulders. Stopping briefly so that his rider could get his weapon the horse then with little urging from Dain moves out of the area.
Shan A'pass walks through the guarded gates, to the Queen's Plaza.
Shan A'pass has left.
Renford smiles. "If Sydelle knew where I was at any given point, she could have projected her army at me and destroyed me...but as it stood she heard I was everywhere...and did not have the force to move at each report...moving at just one would have opened her up to me. Sure none of the decoys looked like me...but that is one advantage to few knowing what I look like. They are carismatic fellows...ones I could trust to help rally the people of my land to my cause. Your...agents in my country latched onto one of these decoys...and were fooled. Nothing more, nothing less."
"Interesting," Theowyn doesn't seem too interested in the tale, though he certainly takes his notes. "So you've come all this way to risk your life and reveal your true identity before the High Cour of Andor and Andorans in general as you walk through this courtyard in public..." he stops, letting the words sit before raising his eyebrow. "To help Andor? To prevent war with Andor? Why?"
Caenna inquires mildly, "So each section of the country where you reportedly have followers is actually..." She stops speaking as Theowyn does, but there is an interested light in her eyes, thinkig out the angles.
Renford says "To get your ignorance off my conscious Prince Theowyn. *a flat answer to a flat question*"
"Do not insult my intelligence," Theowyn responds, his anger showing a hint now, though likely boiling further within. "You claim of this great power within Murandy that was near seizing the throne from Sydelle, one that was not yourself. And now you take this risk to clear my of my ignorance?" Theowyn roles his eyes. "I do begin to believe that you are the Lord Renford we have heard about, I did hear he was a fool. One warped in his own sense of reality."
Caenna reminds Theowyn, "a fool that the Murandians believe in, First Prince."
Caenna reminds Theowyn, "a fool that the Murandians believe in, First Prince." (repose)
Orwin enters the courtyard through the sally-port in the great gates.
Orwin has arrived.
Renford shows no hint of any anger only that never ending smile of his. "I do admit...I live in a reality all my own Prince Theowyn. Sadly though...on occassion that reality must interact with yours. I do not care wether you believe the situation as I present it to you. Honestly...I do not give a damn. However, I would be remiss in my duty to my people, if I did not see to it that Andor was presented with the other side of the story from the horses mouth...before it decided to act on skewed and in many cases...false information." Your spies didn't even have the right Renford afterall...
Renford looks to Caenna for a moment...The smile seeming perhaps a bit more genuine. "That they do Aes Sedai."
"Interesting..." Theowyn comments, showing a wonderful smirk. No, he's not diplomatic. "Well then, when we see proof of your heritage then I will most enjoy offering you a release from our Palace. You might even claim an apology out of me," he notes, and then looks to Caenna. "This man has claimed the support of the Murandian's because they belief him extreme enough to defend their nation in a war. A war against Andor, though now he's brought forth evidence that it was not Andor all along, but Illian. Another intersting fact."
Moving up toward the gates is Orwin, walking slowly as if enjoying a quiet stroll in the woods, acknowledging others with a simple nod. A small frown creeps upon his face as two of the guards bar his way and demand his weapons. Seems like a negotiation has begun.
Caenna nods. "Which is, after all, the reason we are all here debating this. Otherwise, you could just be flung into prison and the Andoram court have done with it. Even assuming you are who you have said." She turns to Theowyn. "First Prince, I was not noble born, but is it not that much of the support of a king rests on the fact his people depend on him to defend them?"
Renford corrects the Prince. "You have no clue why I have been put where I am...only what you have heard from others. They put me where I am because I am s ymbol of strength in an otherwise weak and spineless mottle of choices." He looks to Caenna...amused by the whole...Andoran court deciding it thing. He says nothing though as he would rather listen to the woman support his argument against this hot headed Andoran then hinder it.
"Caenna Sedai, of course," Theowyn responds politely. "Though the use of lies to gain power have rarely been favorable. Especially when lies speak of a war that was never to happen. We have reports of this man placing armed civilians at the border, inraging them to a state of battle against Andor." There he offers a simple shrug. "He will state Andor has already invaded Murandy for a brief few days to claim blood already charged with treason. He will claim some of our reports were lies to frame him." On that note, he pauses. "And I am sure you will agree, a despirate people will rarely choose the right leader."
Renford shrugs. "I do not need to stand around and listen to this one." he looks to the Sedai. "I will be in the guest quarters should you wish to speak with me."
Renford puts his horse up and goes in
The guards' will seems relentless, and Orwin's forced to put up his weapons, with a little fuss over it. He ignores the two guards that stick to his heels and sweeps the courtyard with a steady gaze.
Caenna shakes her head as Renford walks off, then smiles wryly. "Well."
"I do not buy it, Caenna Sedai, simply do not buy his story," Theowyn admits as he watches Renford head off into the distance. "Perhaps I am at a bias of hearing of this man being rather insane.. I hear the Tower even insured he was not a male channeler. But now how can we even assume this is the right one, when he had five duplicates running his affairs within Murandy?"
Caenna replies thoughtfully, "Nothing should be assumed at all. Let him provide proof - it's only to his advantage to do it quickly, before one of the five duplicates steps forward to take power in his stead." She looks over to Orwin, raises a hand in greeting.
"Lord Magnus had made claims that Lord Renford killed Queen Sydelle's heir-apparent," Theowyn notes as an after-thought. "Again, this man can claim he was framed, but that is another attack that happened on Andoran soil. What I find troublesome is Lord Magnus was close with Queen Sydelle. And Lord Magnus had the respect of the Queen. You see why I give little evidence to this man paining Queen Sydelle with a stroke that evil, not when I know and trust Lord Magnus was close to the situation."
Caenna nods. "I do not know Lord Magnus, though. I do not have your perspective on the situation."
Seeing the greeting aimed at him, Orwin makes his way toward the couple. He directs a shallow bow in Theowyn's direction "Light favor, your Royal Highness. And you, Caenna Sedai." He curiosuly listens to what Theowyn has to say.
Theowyn inclines his head to Orwin before continuing. "There has been an investigation against the house that this apparent Lord Renford came here disguised leading. One that was thought to have support of the Queen, but never did. I believe this matter might need a revisit with Durnik, though that man..." he stops there, frowning.
Caenna tilts her head, waiting for the rest.
Orwin stays carefully quiet for the time being, glancing from one to the other without as much as moving his head.
"Another man that is suspected of insanity, though at least with him I have seen it first-hand," Theowyn finishes.
Caenna says "Rio Sedai has mentioned this man before. But never said anything of insanity."
"Well, I exaggerate a touch," Theowyn nods to that, but then continues. "Yet, what would you make of a man that would go to the Children of the Light naming two of their officers as Darkfriends, yet going on the information heard from a ten year old girl that claims to have overheard a conversation?"
Caenna smiles wryly. "A telling point."
"Indeed," Theowyn agrees with a shared expression. "And had he checked the information out, which I do not know if he had, this girl had reason to dislike the two Children. The girl is also someone Rio Sedai knows. Mouse, I believe, she goes by? Well, needless to say the Children have him walking with a tight escort of their men to insure they keep pace on him. A matter I would normally not allow, but we've been assured he agreed to the condition when entering the camp. Durnik is also the man that released the rumor of Illian joining with Murandy against Andor. You could see why I give little credit to it." Unfortunate how one was true, the other not.
Caenna nods. "But Durnik is not the issue."
"Well, if you believe this Lord Renford, Durnik certainly would be an issue, correct Caenna Sedai?" Theowyn asks, though not really expecting an answer. "I do not doubt some claims made last night, claims I suspect no more now then I did before the High Court, and that is someone is working against Andor within the Queen's Guard. Some group even. But time for me to head out. Pleasant evening to you, Caenna Sedai."
Caenna nods. "First Prince."
