Voice chat text transcripts

The voice chat plugin (available free from http://www.hearme.com) provides both voice and text chat windows.  Users without microphones can therefore follow the conversation via their sound cards and type their responses. The text chat window is also useful for people in the voice chat to get a word in edgewise (typing for all to see while others are talking), and to write info such as urls without having to dictate them.

What you find below is a transcript of what went on in the text window while people were speaking in the voice chat.  What transpired in the voice chat has not been preserved.  Therefore what you see below again does not faithfully preserve the threads of the conversation.

After a HearMe voice chat we usually find that the text chat is completely preserved.  This could be because the file is smaller (since people who are talking don’t write so much) or that the chat client has better buffering capabilities; not sure which.

When someone changes his/her name in the chat client, that person “leaves” the chat and then “joins” it again under the new name, which explains much of the activity.

(Editor: Graham’s contribution appears to have made a good impression on more than one participant, but I missed the gyst due to the distractions of presenting and participating in multiple chats while switching monitors at the OHP and answering questions and taking calls on my mobile at the same time – the call was about our dive planned for next day – sorry, back to the topic: would anyone like to report on Graham’s suggestion?) Graham responds here

(Editor’s note: Here, Vance lets slip that Webheads have been offered a slot at the upcoming CALL conference in Barcelona, 'CALL for THE 21st CENTURY' - IATEFL Computer Sig Event to be held at ESADE, Barcelona, Spain.  June 30th - July 2nd, 2000; http://www.paddocks64.freeserve.co.uk/CompSIG2/esade.htm.)

Michael: Another bloody conference!

Peter: life is hard eh Vance?

Michael: When will it ever end?

Michael: lol

Alison: Michael cant hear you

Michael: Oh!

Michael: Can you hear anyone?

Alison: can hear Peter vance geoff

Michael: lol

(Editor again: in this part of the conversation, Peter challenges Vance to not only set up a streaming video feed from the conference site, but to take the feed to the streets of Pamplona to record the action at the annual festival there, just after the conference.  Carried away by the euphoria of the occasion, Vance agrees to, well, at least look into downloading the Real Media Server – and that was ALL I agreed to, Peter!)
