Douglas Brandt Byerly has recently been appointed the new Music Director
of the Westminster Choral Arts Society. Douglas is the Director of Music at St. John the Evangelist in Hydes, Maryland, and is also
Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Anne Arundel Community College. His diverse choral experience includes working with well-known regional conductors such as
Edward Polochick and Tom Hall, as well as studying with national choral figures including Robert Shaw, Margaret Hillas, Larry Edwards, and Howard
Swan. Maestro Byerly has conducted performances for television and has commissioned new works from many area composers, including Christopher
Palestrant and Michael Carpenter. He is a graduate of the Peabody
Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University and Western Michigan University. Under his direction, the Westminster Choral Arts Society will
present a thrilling 2000-2001 concert season (see repertoire).
