Eric Bischoff speaks out about WWF
|
Former WCW president, Eric Bischoff, told Pro Wrestling Illustrated Weekly this week that he predicted the troubles the WWF is having with sponsors.
"This is exactly what I feared would happen," he said. "I say 'feared' because I think it's not only going to have a backlash on the WWF; it could also have a potential backlash on the entire industry. If you go back to some of my earlier interviews, my biggest concern was that if advertisers begin to look at wrestling as an unfavorable environment, then television as we know it, as it relates to wrestling, could be severely impacted."
Bischoff continued to explain that, "Whether people want to recognize it or not, if you take television out of the equation, or you minimize television, that will impact every single aspect of this business. That was my original concern. I voiced it loudly and publicly, and no one really listened at that point. I just hope that both organizations, or all organizations, including ECW for that matter, will be able to find a way to capture the public's interest and keep the product vital and interesting without having to do the things that alienate advertisers."
Although Bischoff seems to be "out of the game" at this point in time, anything can happen in the world of professional wrestling.
