WCW Live report - 12/27 (Pre-Nitro)

WCW LIVE RECAP (December 27)
By: Manny A
Things that were discussed:
Pre-Nitro
- Before the show, Disco Inferno did a pretaped mephitic medley of Neil Diamond songs.
- DISCO INFERNO joined the show and requested that he sing some more songs and unfortunately decided to do so.
- PG-13 (Wolfie D and JC Ice) joined the show. They said that they have wrestled in all of the different organizations at one time or another. They were in the WWF as part of the Nation of Domination but they said that they don't like Jerry Lawler and got a raw deal there. They felt that they were not given the opportunity to show how well they can work. They spoke about wearing hubcaps as chains as part of their gimmick. JC Ice is the son of Bill Dundee and he talked about how difficult it was to work for his father. PG-13 worked in ECW for a sting and they thought it was OK, but nothing really great. Paul Heyman gave them a chance when they left the WWF. Their contract status with WCW is not yet a done deal but they plan to stay here for a while. Jeff Jarrett was the one who got them into the business. Wolfie D came up with his name by using his last name (Wolf) and attaching a D to the end. JC Ice got his name from Vanilla Ice and the hatred people had for him. They would love to work a program with 3 Count because they feel that they can blow the roof off the arena.
- The Outsiders will be stripped of the tag team belts tonight and a "Lethal Lottery" will be set up to decided the new tag champs. Random teams will be put together after a drawing and they will battle this week and next.
- DAVID PENZER joined the show. He was not too fond of Disco Inferno's singing and said that he would rather watch Evan Karagias wrestle for an hour or even sing over it.
- MARK MADDEN joined the show. He said that he knows for a fact that "Scott" will be at Nitro tonight.
- Scott Hall does have bone chips and will require knee surgery. It should not keep him out for more than 4 to 6 weeks.
- Madden said that Scott Steiner is rumored to announce his retirement on Nitro tonight.
- Madden told a story where a former Hooter's girl told him about Konnan trying to pick her up one night.
- Madden commented that anyone on the Internet who thinks that this new nWo is the same as the previous one is a "freakin idiot."
- MIKE TENAY joined the show. He will be doing color commentary tonight on Nitro. There will be a "Best of Monday Nitro" show on TNT on Wednesday night. Jeremy is now known as "Prime Time Borash." Mike talked about working with Tony Schiavone and Scott Hudson on this past week's Thunder an about how that was the first time the trio had worked together. He is really looking forward to the Lethal Lottery tonight. He also said that Thunder is preempted this week.
- Lash Leroux will be at Mardi Gras in the next year and WCW cameras may film some stuff with him.
- MEAN GENE OKERLUND joined the show. He just met with Leia Meow and feels that she is a bonafide cheerleader.
- At this point, we has a chicken plucking moment in the show.
- Gene will be doing an interview tonight with the Total Package and Elizabeth. He has known Liz through all of the ups and down in her career as well as her marriages. He feels that it is great to have her involved in the business. Gene thinks that "Y2J" is something that someone made up to make a quick buck and he does not believe in it. He recently opened up a couple more Mene Gene burger joints in NY (one in Brooklyn and one on 14th Street in Manhattan.)
Post-Nitro
- Rundown of Nitro which can be found later in the DL.
- Discussion of Scott Steiner joining the nWo and the retirement being a swerve.
- The valet for Standards & Practices (Lenny and Lodi) was Nitro Girl Sky.
- JEFF JARRETT joined the show. He thinks that it is an understatement that it was a big night for the nWo. He felt that the last segment was "sweet" and he enjoyed it greatly. Jeff says that Kidman can really work and the match came off great. He also felt that Scott Steiner deserves an award for his acting performance. Jeff thinks that WCW is getting their money's worth out of him with all the matches that he is participating in since he arrived. His Triple Threat Theater match with Benoit will be 25% of the PPV. The nWo has many more tricks up their sleeves as the weeks come. Jeff says that he will hit anyone, including women over 70. He is waiting for "stroke" and "slapnutz" T-shirts. His move which is called "the Stroke" is something that he witness in Tennessee.
- Scott Hall will be having surgery next week and there is no news as to a return date.
- Callers were fond of the Scott Steiner swerve and Bob said that he should be at 100% in a couple of weeks.
- No news on the status of Steven Regal. He was not at Nitro tonight.
- Bob feels that no matter how many guys this nWo team has, they have to all be main event caliber talent which is what they have at the moment.
- VAMPIRO joined the show. He feels that he "kicked major ass" in his segment tonight where he attacked 3 Count. He is happy to be involved in the storyline and to be moving around again. Vamp said that Vince Russo is so happy with him that he said that if he didn't have kids, he would adopt Vamp. Vamp plugged his website (www.vampirospike.com). He feels that Jeremy is getting a bit out of hand with his talk of "Prime Time Borash" and that he is very rude towards the callers of the show. The Misfits are in the middle of a tour which is why they were not here tonight. After that, they may go to wrestling school for a while so they look better in the ring. Vamp will then be starting officially for the band in a couple of months. Vamp once again thanked the fans for keeping him alive and supporting him. He does not feel that anyone in WCW is a "B-team" guy because everyone deserves a right to be here. If Vamp would ever become one of the top ten guys in WCW, he would love to feud with Chris Benoit and Jeff Jarrett. He wished everyone a good New Year and asked them to but his bootleg T-shirts from his website.
- Bob compared the difference between "Internet reporters" and "Internet repeaters." Many of those are kids who copy news from the bigger sites and feel as though they are experts because of it.
- Bob feels that Nitro switching to the 2 hour format next week will push the ratings up for both shows.
- There is nothing confirmed about Shawn Stasiak signing with WCW. He was at WCW headquarters a couple weeks ago.
- DAVID PENZER joined the show. He was hanging out at the New Year's Evil party after Nitro. He is glad that Standards & Practices is back. He wished everyone a Happy New Year.
- WCW Live guests this week: 3 Count on Tuesday, Terry Taylor on Wednesday, Shane Douglas on Thursday's Post show, the Bill Banks New Years Special on Friday.
- The show wrapped up.
