HANDBOOK:
School History
In September 1999,
John F. Kennedy High School will celebrate its 40th birthday.
Originally called Tumon Junior/Senior High, the school opened its
doors to approximiately 1200 students from grades 7-12 in September
1959. The school remained Tumon Junior/Senior HIgh School until January
1965 when then name was changed by the Guam legislature to honor the
late President Kennedy.
The school Colors
of Green and Gold were chosen by the student body that first year.
The school newspaperwas named Sand Prints, which was later renamed
The Kennedy Chronicle. Kanton Ladera became the name for the yearbook.
Mr. Al Fain served
as the school's first principal with a faculty of 57. Today, John
F. Kennedy serves a population over 2700 students with a faculty of
approximately 125 instructors of college preparatory and vocational
programs.
